Troubleshooting Amazon’s Cover Creator: Answers to Common Problems

If an author publishes a print book on the D2D (Draft to Digital} Website, the process is exceedingly simple. The software takes the authors uploaded E book cover and creates a print ready cover with one or two clicks, and in a matter of seconds.

Amazon’s cover creator is more complicated, and can be a mystery for the first timer. Still, it is what it is, as the only direct doorway to publishing print books on Amazon. Unless of course you pay a service to produce, or have the ability to create, your own print ready cover with Acrobat or other software. The purpose of this article is to answer some common sticking points for the amateur or first time user.

Recently I attempted to upload a PDF for a print book. Apparently it is a common problem to find a large file will not upload. My internet connection kept dropping out in the middle of the upload. A search told me others had encountered the same problem. The answer was compressing the file online free. The ILoveIMG/PDF sites are way ahead of all others for that. I discovered Doc x files do not compress well. PDF’s compress with no change to quality.

I have found best practice is to first compress all image files before adding them to the PDF. That should enable a problem free PDF upload on Amazon. If not, then compress the entire…
